It was with sadness that we heard this weekend of Whitehorse Musical Theatre’s decision to close their doors after forty years of fabulous contribution to the Melbourne amateur theatre community. We at MDMS are sad to see this theatre ‘great’ shut up shop after such a long and rich history.
DetailsMDMS always have an awesome time at the Lyrebird Awards, and this year was no exception. We came away with one award; huge congratulations to Jonathan Guthrie-Jones on his win for best supporting actor as Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar.
DetailsWe’d like to welcome our cast for ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’ to MDMS! On Sunday, we had our meet and greet, where the cast got to meet and mingle with each other for the first time. Director Adrian Carr outlined his vision for the show, including some really spectacular 3D diagrams of the set.

Firstly, we have our meet and greet for ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’. We have an awesome and enthusiastic cast, and we can’t wait to get everyone together and share the excitement about the show. Our production team – Ado, Vicki and Miranda – have some fabulous ideas and are absolutely raring to go! We hope you all had a really enjoyable Christmas; MDMS is revving up for another year of theatrical fun and frivolity – starting with Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (or 747, as we’ve nicknamed it; it’s faaaaaar too long to keep typing all the time). The production team – Adrian, Vicki, Miranda, Jo and Kelly – have all been hard at work, throwing about ideas and getting ready for rehearsals to start in March.

DetailsWell, the Guilds were certainly enjoyed by many MDMSers. It was great to see our names up on screen, even if we didn’t win! Highlights include some smashing dresses worn by the ladies and our very own Sir Jonathan Guthrie-Jones not only taking out the TP best dressed accolade, but wowing us all with his amazing impromptu (if a little drunken) interviewing skills at the after party. Jonno was nominated as best supporting actor for his portrayal of Pilate, and our ensemble were nominated in the most outstanding ensemble category. The awards night will be held on the 4th December, and there will be a number of MDMS peeps there to represent the company.
